One of our favourite Instagram trends for the festive season is undoubtedly glitter lips, and thanks to lip tattoos, glitter kits and a general trend for all things sparkly this year, achieving the ultimate glitter pout is easier than ever!
Before we share our favourite Insta-picks with you, here are some of our top tips for getting the look yourself…
Get the look
- Apply your lipstick in a colour that matches or complements your glitter. We always recommend using a coloured base instead of a clear gloss, as this way you won’t be left with obvious gaps when your glitter rubs away or moves (and let’s face it, this WILL happen!). If you’re using a matte liquid liquid, you may want to follow this up with a balm or thick gloss to give the glitter something to stick to.
- Get a dampened cotton swab or lip brush and dip into your chosen glitter. Be sure to use makeup-grade glitter for this – this isn’t the time for craft shop sparkles! – and remember that the finer your glitter, the better it will adhere to your lips, which means a longer-lasting style.
- Apply your glitter! You may have to apply several layers for consistency. If any glitter falls loose during application, you can use sellotape to gently remove it without messing up your makeup.
