Disney has shared a sneak peek at the fun foods coming to two “new” dining spots in the reimagined Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland. This post shares photos of the menu items, a breakdown of where these are located, Mobile Order details, and added commentary.
As previously reported, Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland reopens on March 19, 2023. The land was originally scheduled to return 11 days earlier, on March 8. However, due to construction delays caused by winter storms, it has been delayed. (The weather has only gotten worse since the decision was made to push back the reopening, so here’s hoping Toontown makes the March 19 opening date!)
Along with the reimagined land, there are new tasty treats and two “new” dining locations in Toontown: Café Daisy and Good Boy Grocers. Let’s dig into what’ll be on the menus at both of these locations, where they’re located, what they replace, and more…
For starters, Good Boy Grocers is a Pluto-themed roadside stand offering grab-and-go snacks and drinks. This replaces the former Goofy’s Gas Station which offered the same fare in a relatively similar setup. You can see Good Boy Grocers in the Toontown model below–it’s the location on the far left.
According to Disney, Good Boy Grocers is the home of the Toontown Farmers Market. Good Boy Grocers offers a spot to refuel with healthy treats and thirst-quenching refreshments. This friendly roadside stand is the paw-fect place to take a quick break and get your tail wagging again. (So in other words, it’s a typical open-air fresh foods stand.)
Next door to Good Boy Grocers is the rethemed Café Daisy, a quick-service window serving up diner classics. This was previously a very similar walk-up window called Daisy’s Diner that served the same types of stereotypical theme park fare. It actually appears that Café Daisy might be larger than its predecessor–at least on the inside–as the ice cream window that was previously to the right of it is gone.
According to Disney, Café Daisy is the go-to spot in Mickey’s Toontown for delicious eats and good company. Café Daisy is the comfort food restaurant “where the food is fresh, and the service is friendly.” Enjoy diner favorites served up with a smile—including mouth watering all-beef hot dogs, cheesy pizzas and wholesome garden wraps. If you’re a kid, you’re in luck, because Daisy Duck has come up with something special. Take your pick between a kid-sized pizza, fun-sized corn dogs or mini mac and cheese.
Café Daisy will offer both a walk-up window for ordering upon arrival and mobile order pick-up window. Now let’s take a look at what’s on the new menu at Café Daisy in Mickey’s Toontown…
There are quite a few dishes Daisy has put together for adults. The Daisy’s Dressed-up Dog features an all-beef foot-long hot dog, chili-cheese sauce, mac & cheese, and parmesan potato crispies with house-made chips.
For those looking for a simpler hot dog, The Daisy Dog is an all-beef foot-long hot dog with house-made chips and gives you the option of adding on some chili-cheese sauce.
If you’re a pizza lover, there are two options.
The Cheesy Pizza Flop-Over features mozzarella and provolone with tomato sauce while the Pepperoni Pizza Flop-Over has pepperoni, mozzarella, and provolone with tomato sauce. Allergy-friendly offerings are available too – just ask at the location!
If you’re looking for a plant-based offering, the Spring Garden Wrap is also available at Café Daisy.
This dish combines romaine and quinoa into a wrap with a creamy lemon dressing and toasted pumpkin seeds accompanied with house-made chips.
Kids can enjoy the Cheese Please Pizza with cheese and tomato sauce or the Pepperoni Please Pizza with pepperoni, cheese, and tomato sauce.
Café Daisy also serves up bite-size Minnie’s Mini Corn Dogs and the tasty Mini Mac & Cheesy.
You can also order a side of Toontown ‘Tater Chips – house-made chips with chili-cheese sauce – to add on to your meal.
Finally, there’s dessert at Café Daisy. The Daisy’s Goody-Goody Donuts with cinnamon sugar are not to be missed and are the perfect sweet finish to your dining experience.
In addition to these dishes, there are some specialty drinks available at Café Daisy. The Picnic Time Watermelon Lemonade is a refreshing choice with Minute Maid Zero Sugar Lemonade, watermelon premium syrup, and watermelon gummies.
Next, there’s the Specialty Cold Brrr-ew made up of Caramel Mudslide Cold Brew from Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea Co. with sea salt and whipped topping.
In addition to Café Daisy, there’s Good Boy! Grocers. This friendly roadside stand has grab-and-go drinks and tasty treats for you to enjoy, and some new novelties to go along with them.
Some of the snack-sized items you can pick up include pickles, Mini Babybel snack cheese, Coca-Cola beverages, waters, Topo Chico Sparkling Mineral Water, gluten-allergy-friendly cookies, fruit bars, and whole fruit. Grab as many as you’d like to complete your own picnic outing in Mickey’s Toontown.
There’s also the Perfect Picnic Basket novelty item. After picking up your basket, you can choose three snack-sized items such as Cuties Mandarin Orange, yogurt smoothie, applesauce, granola bar, gluten-allergy-friendly fig bar, and more.
You’ll also be able to choose between a small DASANI water or Minute Maid Juice Box. If you want to enhance your outing even more, you can also get a Perfect Picnic Blanket to go with your basket.
In terms of commentary, let’s start with the Perfect Picnic Basket & Blanket. Given all of the green space in the reimagined Toontown, I think this is a fantastic idea. Or rather, the kernel of a fantastic idea. Doing takeaway picnic baskets is brilliant, and turning them into novelty items is a nice touch for those who want that.
Filling them with only snacks and making their primary focus be the souvenirs is what loses me. This should be like the Hungry Bear On-The-Go Package, which offers up takeaway meals that can be enjoyed elsewhere in the park. Do that at these spots, but with actual meals of substance. Due to the seating situation, that’s already how guests are going to do meals at Café Daisy, so why not make it easier for them…and sell picnic basket bundles in the process?
My only quibble is that the food isn’t cute. Disney has started recognizing the “importance” of photogenic foods, but that has mostly been via colorful drinks and desserts. (Unfortunately, many of those don’t taste very good and are loaded with artificial colors and flavors.) There’s a whole untapped market of adorably-shaped foods that both look fun and taste fantastic.
This is a minor complaint, but ever since seeing how Tokyo Disneyland turned its similarly ordinary walk-up window in Toontown into something special (and incredibly popular), I’ve wanted something similar at Disneyland. For a look at all of the adorable foods there–some of which are surprisingly delicious, too–see our Huey, Dewey & Louie’s Good Time Cafe Review.
As for the menu at Café Daisy, I’m intrigued by the unique hot dogs and pizza flop-overs. We only ever ate at Daisy’s Diner twice (back in my overzealous ‘completionist’ days of wanting to review every single Disney restaurant everywhere), and it was nothing special. Very ordinary theme park cuisine. I wouldn’t even call it one of the worst restaurants in Disneyland because it didn’t aspire to be a real restaurant.
Ultimately, Café Daisy will easily surpass its predecessor based on the menu revealed thus far. If it manages to have a standout menu item or two, it’ll be a big win for Toontown, and further cement this as becoming a bona fide land that can hold its own against the rest of Disneyland. The Perfect Picnic Basket & Blanket idea is brilliant, and I really hope this concept is given room to evolve. Meal time at the family-friendly restaurants in Disneyland can be crowded and chaotic, and a Perfect Picnic could be the perfect antidote to that. All in all, we’re very excited to experience the reimagined Mickey’s Toontown!
