A lot of people want the joy and satisfaction of designing their own garden but are scared they are going to muck it up and waste their money!
As you probably already know, I share ALL my 25 years worth of professional garden design experience in online garden design and planting courses. The formula I teach is simple to follow and requires no previous garden or design experience to get great results.
But sometimes people do want the reassurance that what they’ve come up with is the best design for their garden…
The Best of Both Worlds!
Barbara, one of our Fast-Track Garden Design Course students, booked me for a plan review to double-check her design ideas.
As you can see from the plan – she was really close to a great design with the way she had divided the space and the features she’d added, but she just needed a little bit of help to get the flow of the paths right.
Smoothing out the path shapes was a small amendment but it makes a big difference to the look and feel of the whole garden.
I also slightly adjusted the lawn around the pergola seating area in the top right of the plan. Again, this is a really small ‘fix’ but it improves the design flow.
Barbara was 90% of the way there with all her ideas, so it really was just a case of polishing to perfection.
The Rest of the Garden…
One of the garden issues was the rather unusual mural the neighbours had painted on their half of the garage – it didn’t really go with the traditional cottage garden Barbara was trying to create! Over time the pergola and planting should disguise it nicely.
The curved shapes help soften the dominant fence and wall angles and once the planting has grown up the seating areas will feel secluded and cosy.
Retaining the View
It was also really important with this garden to retain the spectacular views across the countryside.
Barbara did a great job with her design and it was my absolute pleasure to help her polish it to perfection. I hope she’s as proud of her achievement as I am of her!
