Getting to the family-friendly Nimmo Bay Resort is the beginning of an extraordinary adventure for many guests. With no roads leading to Nimmo Bay, visitors choose a scenic floatplane, helicopter, or private water transfer to reach this luxury waterfront retreat located in British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest. Regardless of your mode of transportation, be prepared to be transformed once you arrive.
It’s difficult to describe the magic at family-friendly Nimmo Bay Resort. But something pretty powerful happens when you combine the stunning natural setting, attentive staff, abundant adventure opportunities, cozy cabins, nourishing food, and nature-inspired wellness offerings.

Travelling families of four can stay together or in separate cabins. If you want to request a specific location (subject to availability), there is an additional charge of 200 CAD per cabin per night.
NIMMO BAY ADVENTURE EXPERIENCES
With access to 50,000 square miles of coastal wilderness and multiple ways to explore the area, including helicopters, boats, kayaks, and paddleboards, there are plenty of opportunities for family adventure at Nimmo Bay. To help you plan your adventures at Nimmo Bay, here is a brief overview of the memory-making activities we enjoyed during our five days at family-friendly Nimmo Bay Resort.
Family Kayak Trip
After fueling up on a delicious breakfast at Little River, we joined our guide at the kayak dock. Once into our lifejackets and ocean kayaks, we paddled away from Nimmo Bay. We glided past towering trees climbing up from the rocky shoreline, and learned about the natural environment. Our final destination was a nearby estuary where we watched (from a safe distance) black bears foraging for food.
Floating Sauna at Family Friendly Nimmo Bay
The three hours we spent at Nimmo Bay floating sauna is one of our best family travel experiences ever. Anchored in a protected bay, the wood-fired sauna is located on a spacious wooden dock with lounge chairs and an umbrella.
We indulged in a picnic lunch of steaming soup, yummy sandwiches, salty snacks, and freshly baked cookies. Then we changed into our swimsuits and plunged into the shivery Pacific Ocean. We alternated between the numbing cold and soothing warmth of the wood-fired sauna a few times before our guide returned to the floating dock. Back in the kayaks, we paddled to Nimmo Bay Wilderness Resort.
A boat transfer to and from the floating sauna is available.
Hike in the Great Bear Rainforest
Hikes in the majestic Great Bear Rainforest depart from Nimmo Bay Wilderness Lodge. We followed knowledgeable guides along trails rich with nature’s treasures and learned about the region’s abundant flora and fauna.
Nimmo Bay offers trails for all levels of hikers.
Family-Friendly Nimmo Bay Coastal Safari
We spent an unforgettable day hunting for the Pacific Ocean’s Big Five — dolphins, whales, seals, sea otters, and sea lions — on a full-day Coastal Safari. You can read more about this experience in this story I wrote for Explore.
Wellness at Nimmo Bay Wilderness Lodge
Nimmo Bay excels at customized experiences, and this includes wellness offerings. My perfect day included a solo guided hike in the nature-rich forest behind the resort. After the hike, a private yoga session and relaxing massage overlooking the ocean rounded out an unforgettable day of wellness.
Helicopter Adventure at Nimmo Bay Wilderness Lodge
While I explored the wellness offerings, my husband and sons booked a Nimmo Bay helicopter adventure. They soared over a slice of the over 50,000 square miles (130,000 square kilometers) of British Columbia’s remote wilderness surrounding Nimmo Bay Resort.
One of their best days ever included hiking alongside10,000-year-old glaciers, a gourmet picnic lunch overlooking unbelievably blue lakes, and fly fishing at little-known spots.
Dining at Nimmo Bay
It’s difficult to compete with the spectacular setting and endless adventure opportunities at Nimmo Bay. But, the fresh flavours, locally sourced ingredients, and knowledgeable staff make dining at Nimmo Bay’s restaurant, Little River, another memorable experience at Nimmo Bay.
Little River serves all of the meals inside a newly constructed floating dining room or outside on a waterfront dock.
How to Get to Family-Friendly Nimmo Bay Resort
Nimmo Bay Resort is accessible by helicopter, floatplane, and private yacht. We flew on an amphibious Gruman Goose airplane from Port McNeill to the waterfront reception at Nimmo Bay Resort. We returned to Port McNeill (Vancouver Island) in a helicopter. Contact Nimmo Bay to arrange transportation that works best for you.
International border restrictions are continually changing. Contact your travel advisor or Nimmo Bay for the latest travel requirements before booking your magical experience at family-friendly Nimmo Bay.
